It's going to be HELL ON WHEELS

So it is June 7th, a warm Sunday morning, and I thought that I had better pre-pack the Vardo to make sure I'm going to get 10 Fish Bomb Boat paper sculptures, popup canopy, food, 2 dogs, and a folding bicycle in it in preparation for my exhibit in Fort Worth Community Arts Center. I had intended to pre-pack and remove them all, since in this heat, I didn't think it would be wise to put shellac impregnated paper in a hot vehicle. Well 2 hot and sweaty hours later, the Vardo it packed.

And well, shit, I'm not taking it out. Most of the time was spend trying to get the big pot bellied latest FBB in the door. Of course, stupid artist thinks about art, and not anything practical, like getting the sculpture through a doorway!. Twisting, and contorting and struggling for a half hour got a 3foot wide sculpture through a two foot wide doorway :()

One side did get a tiny bit damaged, but I figured why damage more getting it out and then back in on the real pack. I'll take some paper, glue, henna etc to FW (I always to anyway) and repair it on location.

So after that comedy of cluster-fuck, I decided to leave it all. I've attached some pics.

Still have to put the dogs, bicycle, and any other stuff I can.

And yes, tomorrow, I take it down to the garage to have it looked at and inspected.

Inside Vardo

I haven't worked on the vardo much, since I had a bought of leaky windows. I think that has been fix and I've been finishing up the wallpapering. The back wall which had the leaking is being papered with a thick dark green vinyl and I'm placing that on top of the counters as well. Also I've started ripping up the carpeting with the intention of replacing it with some sort of tile.

Makeover for the inside of the vardo

I've been working on the inside of the vardo a bit. Have in mind a sheikh's tent. A trip to the goodwill brought some red fabric and some crazy wallpaper. Not sure if the wallpaper is arab-chic but it's better than the faux paneling.

Lady Aisha, Mojo and the TubaMaster trundled down to the FFAT in Lubbock TX. Fare included, music, tarot, throwing the bones, henna and art.

Digital manifestation of the Fish Bomb Boats

 I'm back working in the Media Lab, digitizing and animating the airships.  Next step is to compress the Unity File that we created with a flyer and send it off to Arizona so they can test it in their CAVE.

Two Months for Twenty-Four seconds

Before I went to the residencies, I spent a great deal of time in the TTU library media lab digitizing my flying machines.  The end section of the video is the digitized airship. I compressed the video considerable and there are some small flaws. To see a cleaner version of the video, go to:

This is a video interpretation of my current work. I began the flying machines, the Fish Bomb Boats with an invitation to a show, No Danger. The show asked us to reconnect with flying as cultural exchange rather than terror. I reexamined what has been given to the peoples that do not comply with US foreign/economic policy and what they are given in return. From there I explored the airships as a symbol for our interaction with the world. In order to facilitate dissemination of the physical airships, I embarked upon a program to digitize the airships and for them to fly in a virtual realm. This digitizing required two months of work and is at the end of the 4 minute video. It lasts 24 seconds.. All of this is set upon the backdrop of 2 virtual fly throughs that simulate standing on one of my flying machines.
